How a SIP panel house works
SIP stands for structural insulated panel — the Canadian building technology widely used for energy-efficient homes in North America and Europe. Here is what the panel is made of and why a SIP house is warm, strong and quick to build.
OSB-3 board
EGGER, class E1 — a board that is safe to live with, 15 mm on each face in our export kits
Insulation core
HIRSCH EPS 90 graphite: 140 mm in a 170 mm wall, 180 mm in a 210 mm wall and roof
OSB-3 board

Three layers, one structure
Two OSB-3 boards are bonded to an insulation core under pressure. The result is a panel that is both the structure and the insulation of the house. Our panels are reinforced with solid timber at the joints and openings, and every panel is cut to the design at our works in Kyiv.

Warm by design
The wall is insulation from face to face, with no cold bridges through masonry or mortar. A SIP house holds its warmth in winter, stays cool in summer and needs far less energy to heat.
Withstands earthquakes
Canadian frame technology is widely used in areas of high seismic activity. Tests show that SIP panels withstand loads of 18 tonnes along the panel and up to 3.5 tonnes across it without deformation. After the earthquake in Kobe, Japan, the few buildings made with this technology were left standing.
Fire resistance
Under fire the insulation melts but does not sustain combustion, thanks to self-extinguishing additives. OSB does not sustain combustion either: a 10 mm board withstands open flame for 45–60 minutes before it burns through. Each layer of plasterboard adds about an hour of fire resistance.
Fast to build
The house kit arrives numbered and ready for assembly. The shell of a house goes up in a matter of days, in any season, without wet trades or heavy plant.
Precise and light
Panels are made to the design at our works, so the geometry is exact and nothing is cut to fit on site. The house is light, so simple pier-and-strip or piled foundations are usually enough.
Healthy materials
OSB-3 of class E1 meets the European standard for formaldehyde emissions in living spaces, and the panels are treated against fire and biological damage during manufacture.
FAQ
Questions and answers
Відповідаємо на найпоширеніші запитання про СІП будинки від EurHome.
What is a SIP panel?
A structural insulated panel (SIP) is a sandwich of two OSB boards bonded to a rigid insulation core. The panel carries the loads of the house and insulates it at the same time, so walls, floors and roof are built from the same system.
How long does a SIP house last?
A properly designed and built SIP house, with a ventilated façade and roof, lasts as long as any other timber-framed house — many decades. The key is protecting the panels from moisture with the right façade, roofing and ventilation.
Do SIP panels burn?
Neither the insulation nor the OSB sustains combustion on its own. Fire resistance is increased further by lining the walls with plasterboard: each layer adds about an hour.
Can I build a SIP house in a cold climate?
Yes. For colder climates we recommend the Premium Plus kit, with 210 mm walls and 180 mm of insulation, which gives the lowest heat loss in our range.
